Ask any police officer who approaches an unknown vehicle during a traffic stop, and they will tell you that this is one of the greatest risks they face while on duty. Without real time, mission critical intelligence on the vehicle, the officer is forced to remain on guard with no idea what to expect from the driver or occupants.
Until now, license plates required either manual entry into the computer or a call on the radio to communications to obtain the information. The safety of law enforcement is compromised as officers take their eyes off the road to type while driving, or the response time from communications to obtain vehicle information could exceed 10 minutes.
PlateSmart software is about to change all that. PlateSmart provides a dramatic shift from the old type in or call in solution to a low cost, 24/7 automated process that provides real time information with little or no human interaction.
PlateSmart acts as an officer's virtual partner, automatically scanning all license plates within view, day or night, rain or shine with no officer required action or participation until a hit on a vehicle is received. Operating in the background, it is non-intrusive to the officer's ongoing law enforcement routines. The software will automatically search state and national databases for vehicles wanted by the authorities. When the software finds a match, or HIT, the software will visually and audibly notify the officer of the HIT immediately. The officer will then be able to take the appropriate action.
The software allows officers to create their own suspicious/BOLO vehicle lists related to their patrol duties, ongoing investigations, and Amber/Silver Alerts.
Undercover or surveillance activities can utilize the software to track vehicle traffic at a specific location to assist with capturing license plates that will provide investigatory leads.
PlateSmart technology can be used with current computer and camera equipment. Equipment can also be provided if needed.
