Most toll authorities use cameras to capture vehicle license plate numbers of those vehicles that run tolls; it is then necessary for someone to type the data into a database and alert the violator as to the associated fines. With PlateSmart, the database is automatically updated and can by design alert the closest patrol.
In addition, many state and local transportation authorities are installing systems to monitor traffic flow. With PlateSmart, the FDOT can actually capture every vehicle at all times, whether they have in-state plates or out-of-state plates. Another area of concern is bridge and tunnel safety.
Bridges and tunnels have been totally shut down, due to concerns over vehicles being used as weapons to damage the infrastructures. Experts have determined that, frequently terrorists and others scope out a location, before perpetrating an act of violence. PlateSmart can monitor, collect, and report on each vehicle. Therefore, if a questionable type of vehicle drives through an area too frequently, this information can be automatically used by authorities to stop the vehicle(s) in question.
